1d6243db90 [lldb] Fix symbol table use after free
The symbol file stores a raw pointer to the main object file's symbol
table. This pointer, however, can be freed, if ObjectFile::ClearSymtab
is ever called. This patch makes sure out pointer to the symbol file
is valid before using it.

f190ce625a [lldb] Add #include <optional> (NFC)
This patch adds #include <optional> to those files containing

d483d488ca [lldb] Prevent false positives with simple template names in SymbolFileDWARF::FindTypes
The provided test case was crashing because of confusion attempting to find types for `ns::Foo` under -gsimple-template-names. (This looks broken normally because it's attempting to find `ns::Foo` rather than `ns::Foo<T>`)

Looking up types can't give false positives, as opposed to looking up functions as mentioned in https://reviews.llvm.org/D137098.

2916b99182 [ADT] Alias llvm::Optional to std::optional
This avoids the continuous API churn when upgrading things to use
std::optional and makes trivial string replace upgrades possible.

I tested this with GCC 7.5, the oldest supported GCC I had around.

343523d040 [lldb] Use std::nullopt instead of None (NFC)
This patch mechanically replaces None with std::nullopt where the
compiler would warn if None were deprecated.  The intent is to reduce
the amount of manual work required in migrating from Optional to
std::optional.

d941fceca8 Add the ability to see when a type in incomplete.
-flimit-debug-info and other compiler options might end up removing debug info that is needed for debugging. LLDB marks these types as being forcefully completed in the metadata in the TypeSystem. These types should have been complete in the debug info but were not because the compiler omitted them to save space. When we can't find a suitable replacement for the type, we should let the user know that these types are incomplete to indicate there was an issue instead of just showing nothing for a type.

The solution is to display presented in this patch is to display "<incomplete type>" as the summary for any incomplete types. If there is a summary string or function that is provided for a type, but the type is currently forcefully completed, the installed summary will be ignored and we will display "<incomplete type>". This patch also exposes the ability to ask a SBType if it was forcefully completed with:

  bool SBType::IsTypeForcefullyCompleted();

This will allow the user interface for a debugger to also detect this issue and possibly mark the variable display up on some way to indicate to the user the type is incomplete.

To show how this is diplayed, we can look at the existing output first for the example source file from the file: lldb/test/API/functionalities/limit-debug-info/main.cpp

6eaedbb52f Make CompilerType safe
When a process gets restarted TypeSystem objects associated with it
may get deleted, and any CompilerType objects holding on to a
reference to that type system are a use-after-free in waiting. Because
of the SBAPI, we don't have tight control over where CompilerTypes go
and when they are used. This is particularly a problem in the Swift
plugin, where the scratch TypeSystem can be restarted while the
process is still running. The Swift plugin has a lock to prevent
abuse, but where there's a lock there can be bugs.

This patch changes CompilerType to store a std::weak_ptr<TypeSystem>.
Most of the std::weak_ptr<TypeSystem>* uglyness is hidden by
introducing a wrapper class CompilerType::WrappedTypeSystem that has a
dyn_cast_or_null() method. The only sites that need to know about the
weak pointer implementation detail are the ones that deal with
creating TypeSystems.

a842f74056 [lldb] Support simplified template names
See https://discourse.llvm.org/t/dwarf-using-simplified-template-names/58417 for background on simplified template names.

lldb doesn't work with simplified template names because it uses DW_AT_name which doesn't contain template parameters under simplified template names.

Two major changes are required to make lldb work with simplified template names.

1) When building clang ASTs for struct-like dies, we use the name as a cache key. To distinguish between different instantiations of a template class, we need to add in the template parameters.

2) When looking up types, if the requested type name contains '<' and we didn't initially find any types from the index searching the name, strip the template parameters and search the index, then filter out results with non-matching template parameters. This takes advantage of the clang AST's ability to print full names rather than doing it by ourself.

An alternative is to fix up the names in the index to contain the fully qualified name, but that doesn't respect .debug_names.

dd00c4db74 Fix breakpoint setting so it always works when there is a line entry in a compile unit's line table.
Prior to this fix, if the compile unit function:

  void CompileUnit::ResolveSymbolContext(const SourceLocationSpec &src_location_spec, SymbolContextItem resolve_scope, SymbolContextList &sc_list);

was called with a resolve scope that wasn't just eSymbolContextLineEntry, we would end up calling:

  line_entry.range.GetBaseAddress().CalculateSymbolContext(&sc, resolve_scope);

This is ok as long as the line entry's base address is able to be resolved back to the same information, but there were problems when it didn't. The example I found was we have a file with a bad .debug_aranges section where the address to compile unit mapping was incomplete. When this happens, the above function call to calculate the symbol context would end up matching the module and it would NULL out the compile unit and line entry, which means we would fail to set this breakpoint. We have many other clients that ask for eSymbolContextEverything as the resolve_scope, so all other locations could end up failing as well.

The solutions is to make sure the compile unit matches the current compile unit after calling the calculate symbol context. If the compile unit is NULL, then we report an error via the module/debugger as this indicates an entry in the line table fails to resolve back to any compile unit. If the compile unit is not NULL and it differs from the current compile unit, we restore the current compile unit and line entry to ensure the call to .CalculateSymbolContext doesn't match something completely different, as can easily happen if LTO or other link time optimizations are enabled that could end up outlining or merging functions.

This patch allows breakpoint succeeding to work as expected and not get short circuited by our address lookup logic failing.

02c1c93948 [LLDB] Fix printing a static bool struct member when using "image lookup -t"
Fixes #58135

Somehow lldb was able to print the member on its own but when we try
to print the whole type found by "image lookup -t" lldb would crash.

This is because we'd encoded the initial value of the member as an integer.
Which isn't the end of the world because bool is integral for C++.
However, clang has a special AST node to handle literal bool and it
expected us to use that instead.

This adds a new codepath to handle static bool which uses cxxBoolLiteralExpr
and we get the member printed as you'd expect.

For testing I added a struct with just the bool because trying to print
all of "A" crashes as well. Presumably because one of the other member's
types isn't handled properly either.

So for now I just added the bool case, we can merge it with A later.

This patch had to be reverted because on gcc 7.5.0 we see an error converting from std::unique_ptr<MCRegisterInfo> to Expected<std::unique_ptr<MCRegisterInfo>> as the return type for the function createRegInfo. This has now been fixed.

70599d7027 [lldb] Remove LLDB reproducers
This patch removes the remaining reproducer code. The SBReproducer class
remains for ABI stability but is just an empty shell. This completes the
removal process outlined on the mailing list [1].

I went over the output of the following mess of a command:

and proceeded to spend a few days looking at it to find probable typos
and fixed a few hundred of them in all of the llvm project (note, the
ones I found are not anywhere near all of them, but it seems like a
good start).

4763200ec9 Add the ability to show when variables fails to be available when debug info is valid.
Summary:
Many times when debugging variables might not be available even though a user can successfully set breakpoints and stops somewhere. Letting the user know will help users fix these kinds of issues and have a better debugging experience.

Examples of this include:
- enabling -gline-tables-only and being able to set file and line breakpoints and yet see no variables
- unable to open object file for DWARF in .o file debugging for darwin targets due to modification time mismatch or not being able to locate the N_OSO file.

This patch adds an new API to SBValueList:

  lldb::SBError lldb::SBValueList::GetError();

object so that if you request a stack frame's variables using SBValueList SBFrame::GetVariables(...), you can get an error the describes why the variables were not available.

This patch adds the ability to get an error back when requesting variables from a lldb_private::StackFrame when calling GetVariableList.

It also now shows an error in response to "frame variable" if we have debug info and are unable to get varialbes due to an error as mentioned above:

(lldb) frame variable
error: "a.o" object from the "/tmp/libfoo.a" archive: either the .o file doesn't exist in the archive or the modification time (0x63111541) of the .o file doesn't match

This patch teaches LLDB about Mach-O filesets. Filsets are Mach-O files
that contain a bunch of other Mach-O files. Unlike universal binaries,
which have a different header, Filesets use load commands to describe
the different entries it contains.

f0697d7c3f Don't create sections for SHN_ABS symbols in ELF files.
Symbols that have the section index of SHN_ABS were previously creating extra top level sections that contained the value of the symbol as if the symbol's value was an address. As far as I can tell, these symbol's values are not addresses, even if they do have a size. To make matters worse, adding these extra sections can stop address lookups from succeeding if the symbol's value + size overlaps with an existing section as these sections get mapped into memory when the image is loaded by the dynamic loader. This can cause stack frames to appear empty as the address lookup fails completely.

This patch:
- doesn't create a section for any SHN_ABS symbols
- makes symbols that are absolute have values that are not addresses
- add accessors to SBSymbol to get the value and size of a symbol as raw integers. Prevoiusly there was no way to access a symbol's value from a SBSymbol because the only accessors were:

  SBAddress SBSymbol::GetStartAddress();
  SBAddress SBSymbol::GetEndAddress();

  and these accessors would return an invalid SBAddress if the symbol's value wasn't an address
- Adds a test to ensure no ".absolute.<symbol-name>" sections are created
- Adds a test to test the new SBSymbol APIs

b706f56133 [lldb] Automatically unwrap parameter packs in template argument accessors
When looking at template arguments in LLDB, we usually care about what
the user passed in his code, not whether some of those arguments where
passed as a variadic parameter pack.

This patch extends all the C++ APIs to look at template parameters to
take an additional 'expand_pack' boolean that automatically unwraps the
potential argument packs. The equivalent SBAPI calls have been changed
to pass true for this parameter.

A byproduct of the patch is to also fix the support for template type
that have only a parameter pack as argument (like the OnlyPack type in
the test). Those were not recognized as template instanciations before.

The added test verifies that the SBAPI is able to iterate over the
arguments of a variadic template.

The original patch was written by Fred Riss almost 4 years ago.

11f45f36dc [lldb] Fetching symbols in the background with dsymForUUID
On macOS, LLDB uses the DebugSymbols.framework to locate symbol rich
dSYM bundles. [1] The framework uses a variety of methods, one of them
calling into a binary or shell script to locate (and download) dSYMs.
Internally at Apple, that tool is called dsymForUUID and for simplicity
I'm just going to refer to it that way here too, even though it can be
be an arbitrary executable.

The most common use case for dsymForUUID is to fetch symbols from the
network. This can take a long time, and because the calls to the
DebugSymbols.framework are blocking, it takes a while to launch the
process. This is expected and therefore many people don't use this
functionality, but instead use add-dsym when they want symbols for a
given frame, backtrace or module. This is a little faster because you're
only fetching symbols for the module you care about, but it's still a
slow, blocking operation.

This patch introduces a hybrid approach between the two. When
symbols.enable-background-lookup is enabled, lldb will do the equivalent
of add-dsym in the background for every module that shows up in the
backtrace but doesn't have symbols for. From the user's perspective
there is no slowdown, because the process launches immediately, with
whatever symbols are available. Meanwhile, more symbol information is
added over time as the background fetching completes.

6c58f12d07 [lldb/Symbol] Fix null-deref in TypeList::Dump
This patch should just a crash caused by a null pointer dereferencing
when dumping a type. It makes sure that the pointer is valid.

c012408453 Implement better path matching in FileSpecList::FindCompatibleIndex(...).
Currently a FileSpecList::FindFileIndex(...) will only match the specified FileSpec if:
- it has filename and directory and both match exactly
- if has a filename only and any filename in the list matches

Because of this, we modify our breakpoint resolving so it can handle relative paths by doing some extra code that removes the directory from the FileSpec when searching if the path is relative.

This patch is intended to fix breakpoints so they work as users expect them to by adding the following features:
- allow matches to relative paths in the file list to match as long as the relative path is at the end of the specified path at valid directory delimiters
- allow matches to paths to match if the specified path is relative and shorter than the file paths in the list

This allows us to remove the extra logic from BreakpointResolverFileLine.cpp that added support for setting breakpoints with relative paths.

This means we can still set breakpoints with relative paths when the debug info contains full paths. We add the ability to set breakpoints with full paths when the debug info contains relative paths.

Debug info contains "./a/b/c/main.cpp", the following will set breakpoints successfully:
- /build/a/b/c/main.cpp
- a/b/c/main.cpp
- b/c/main.cpp
- c/main.cpp
- main.cpp
- ./c/main.cpp
- ./a/b/c/main.cpp
- ./b/c/main.cpp
- ./main.cpp

This also ensures that we won't match partial directory names, if a relative path is in the list or is used for the match, things must match at the directory level.

The breakpoint resolving code will now use the new FileSpecList::FindCompatibleIndex(...) function to allow this fuzzy matching to work for breakpoints.

1d2a62afaf Re-submit "[lldb] Filter DIEs based on qualified name where possible"
This reverts commit 967df65a36.

This fixes test/Shell/SymbolFile/NativePDB/find-functions.cpp. When
looking up functions with the PDB plugins, if we are looking for a
full function name, we should use `GetName` to populate the `name`
field instead of `GetLookupName` since `GetName` has the more
complete information.

befa77e59a [lldb] Filter DIEs based on qualified name where possible
Context:
When setting a breakpoint by name, we invoke Module::FindFunctions to
find the function(s) in question. However, we use a Module::LookupInfo
to first process the user-provided name and figure out exactly what
we're looking for. When we actually perform the function lookup, we
search for the basename. After performing the search, we then filter out
the results using Module::LookupInfo::Prune. For example, given
a::b::foo we would first search for all instances of foo and then filter
out the results to just names that have a::b::foo in them. As one can
imagine, this involves a lot of debug info processing that we do not
necessarily need to be doing. Instead of doing one large post-processing
step after finding each instance of `foo`, we can filter them as we go
to save time.

Some numbers:
Debugging LLDB and placing a breakpoint on
llvm::itanium_demangle::StringView::begin without this change takes
approximately 70 seconds and resolves 31,920 DIEs. With this change,
placing the breakpoint takes around 30 seconds and resolves 8 DIEs.

529a3d87a7 [NFC] Improve FileSpec internal APIs and usage in preparation for adding caching of resolved/absolute.
Resubmission of https://reviews.llvm.org/D130309 with the 2 patches that fixed the linux buildbot, and new windows fixes.

The FileSpec APIs allow users to modify instance variables directly by getting a non const reference to the directory and filename instance variables. This makes it impossible to control all of the times the FileSpec object is modified so we can clear cached member variables like m_resolved and with an upcoming patch caching if the file is relative or absolute. This patch modifies the APIs of FileSpec so no one can modify the directory or filename instance variables directly by adding set accessors and by removing the get accessors that are non const.

Many clients were using FileSpec::GetCString(...) which returned a unique C string from a ConstString'ified version of the result of GetPath() which returned a std::string. This caused many locations to use this convenient function incorrectly and could cause many strings to be added to the constant string pool that didn't need to. Most clients were converted to using FileSpec::GetPath().c_str() when possible. Other clients were modified to use the newly renamed version of this function which returns an actualy ConstString:

ConstString FileSpec::GetPathAsConstString(bool denormalize = true) const;

This avoids the issue where people were getting an already uniqued "const char *" that came from a ConstString only to put the "const char *" back into a "ConstString" object. By returning the ConstString instead of a "const char *" clients can be more efficient with the result.

The patch:
- Removes the non const GetDirectory() and GetFilename() get accessors
- Adds set accessors to replace the above functions: SetDirectory() and SetFilename().
- Adds ClearDirectory() and ClearFilename() to replace usage of the FileSpec::GetDirectory().Clear()/FileSpec::GetFilename().Clear() call sites
- Fixed all incorrect usage of FileSpec::GetCString() to use FileSpec::GetPath().c_str() where appropriate, and updated other call sites that wanted a ConstString to use the newly returned ConstString appropriately and efficiently.
