9eddc8b9bf [lldb] Expose structured command diagnostics via the SBAPI. (#112109)
This allows IDEs to render LLDB expression diagnostics to their liking
without relying on characterprecise ASCII art from LLDB. It is exposed
as a versioned SBStructuredData object, since it is expected that this
may need to be tweaked based on actual usage.

Reverting this again; I added a commit which added @skipIfDarwin
markers to the TestReverseContinueBreakpoints.py and
TestReverseContinueNotSupported.py API tests, which use lldb-server
in gdbserver mode which does not work on Darwin.  But the aarch64 ubuntu
bot reported a failure on TestReverseContinueBreakpoints.py,

This commit only adds support for the

those packets, and there is no plan to change that. So, for testing

implementation of *very limited* record-and-replay functionality for use
by *tests only*.

The majority of this PR is test infrastructure (about 700 of the 950
lines added).

835b5e278e Add warning message to session save when transcript isn't saved. (#109020)
Somewhat recently, we made the change to hide the behavior to save LLDB
session history to the transcript buffer behind the flag
`interpreter.save-transcript`. By default, `interpreter.save-transcript`
is false. See #90703 for context.

I'm making a small update here to our `session save` messaging and some
help docs to clarify for users that aren't aware of this change. Maybe
`interpreter.save-transcript` could be true by default as well. Any
feedback welcome.

04b443e778 Add the ability to define custom completers to the parsed_cmd template. (#109062)
If your arguments or option values are of a type that naturally uses one
of our common completion mechanisms, you will get completion for free.
But if you have your own custom values or if you want to do fancy things
like have `break set -s foo.dylib -n ba<TAB>` only complete on symbols
in foo.dylib, you can use this new mechanism to achieve that.

1e131ddfa8 [lldb/Interpreter] Introduce ScriptedStopHook{,Python}Interface & make use of it (#105449)
This patch introduces new `ScriptedStopHook{,Python}Interface` classes
that make use of the Scripted Interface infrastructure and makes use of
it in `StopHookScripted`.

It also relax the requirement on the number of argument for initializing
scripting extension if the size of the interface parameter pack contains
1 less element than the extension maximum number of positional arguments
for this initializer.
This addresses the cases where the embedded interpreter session
dictionary is passed to the extension initializer which is not used most
of the time.

0642cd768b [lldb] Turn lldb_private::Status into a value type. (#106163)
This patch removes all of the Set.* methods from Status.

This cleanup is part of a series of patches that make it harder use the
anti-pattern of keeping a long-lives Status object around and updating
it while dropping any errors it contains on the floor.

This patch is largely NFC, the more interesting next steps this enables
is to:
1. remove Status.Clear()
2. assert that Status::operator=() never overwrites an error
3. remove Status::operator=()

Note that step (2) will bring 90% of the benefits for users, and step
(3) will dramatically clean up the error handling code in various
places. In the end my goal is to convert all APIs that are of the form

to

`    llvm::Expected<ResultTy> DoFoo()
`
How to read this patch?

The interesting changes are in Status.h and Status.cpp, all other
changes are mostly

f01f80ce6c [lldb] Extend frame recognizers to hide frames from backtraces (#104523)
Compilers and language runtimes often use helper functions that are
fundamentally uninteresting when debugging anything but the
compiler/runtime itself. This patch introduces a user-extensible
mechanism that allows for these frames to be hidden from backtraces and
automatically skipped over when navigating the stack with `up` and
`down`.

This does not affect the numbering of frames, so `f <N>` will still
provide access to the hidden frames. The `bt` output will also print a
hint that frames have been hidden.

My primary motivation for this feature is to hide thunks in the Swift
programming language, but I'm including an example recognizer for
`std::function::operator()` that I wished for myself many times while
debugging LLDB.

8334d2bfd3 [lldb/Interpreter] Fix ambiguous partial command resolution (#101934)
This patch is a follow-up to #97263 that fix ambigous abbreviated
command resolution.

When multiple commands are resolved, instead of failing to pick a
command to
run, this patch changes to resolution logic to check if there is a
single
alias match and if so, it will run the alias instead of the other
matches.

This has as a side-effect that we don't need to make aliases for every
substring of aliases to support abbrivated alias resolution.

f838fa820f New ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout to resolve potential deadlock in single thread stepping (#90930)
This PR introduces a new `ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout` that will be
used to address potential deadlock during single-thread stepping.

While debugging a target with a non-trivial number of threads (around
5000 threads in one example target), we noticed that a simple step over
can take as long as 10 seconds. Enabling single-thread stepping mode
significantly reduces the stepping time to around 3 seconds. However,
this can introduce deadlock if we try to step over a method that depends
on other threads to release a lock.

To address this issue, we introduce a new
`ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout` that can be controlled by the
`target.process.thread.single-thread-plan-timeout` setting during
single-thread stepping mode. The concept involves counting the elapsed
time since the last internal stop to detect overall stepping progress.
Once a timeout occurs, we assume the target is not making progress due
to a potential deadlock, as mentioned above. We then send a new async
interrupt, resume all threads, and `ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout`
completes its task.

To support this design, the major changes made in this PR are:
1. `ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout` is popped during every internal stop
and reset (re-pushed) to the top of the stack (as a leaf node) during
resume. This is achieved by always returning `true` from
`ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout::DoPlanExplainsStop()` and
`ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout::MischiefManaged()`.
2. A new thread-specific async interrupt stop is introduced, which can
be detected/consumed by `ThreadPlanSingleThreadTimeout`.
3. The clearing of branch breakpoints in the range thread plan has been
moved from `DoPlanExplainsStop()` to `ShouldStop()`, as it is not
guaranteed that it will be called.

8398ad9cb2 [lldb] Unify the way we get the Target in CommandObject (#101208)
Currently, CommandObjects are obtaining a target in a variety of ways.
Often the command incorrectly operates on the selected target. As an
example, when a breakpoint command is running, the current target is
passed into the command but the target that hit the breakpoint is not
the selected target. In other places we use the CommandObject's
execution context, which is frozen during the execution of the command,
and comes with its own limitations. Finally, we often want to fall back
to the dummy target if no real target is available.

Instead of having to guess how to get the target, this patch introduces
one helper function in CommandObject to get the most relevant target. In
order of priority, that's the target from the command object's execution
context, from the interpreter's execution context, the selected target
or the dummy target.

410de0c8c8 [lldb/Commands] Alias script command to scripting run (#97263)
This patch introduces a new top-level `scripting` command with an `run`
sub-command, that basically replaces the `script` raw command.

To avoid breaking the `script` command usages, this patch also adds an
`script` alias to the `scripting run` sub-command.

The reason behind this change is to have a top-level command that will
cover scripting related subcommands.

1130e923e2 [lldb/Interpreter] Discard ScriptedThreadPlan::GetStopDescription return value (#96985)
This patch changes `ScriptedThreadPlan::GetStopDescription` behavior by
discarding its return value since it is optional in the first place (the
user doesn't need to provide a return value in their implementation).

This patch also addresses the test failures in TestStepScripted
following 9a9ec22 and re-enables the tests that were XFAIL'd previously.

The issue here was that the `Stream*` that's passed to
`ThreadPlanPython::GetDescription` wasn't being passed by reference to
the python method so it was never updated to reflect how the python
method interacted with it.

This patch solves this issue by making a temporary `StreamSP` that will
be passed to the python method by reference, after what we will copy its
content to the caller `Stream` pointer argument.

9a9ec228cd [lldb] Make use of Scripted{Python,}Interface for ScriptedThreadPlan (#70392) (#96868)
This patch makes ScriptedThreadPlan conforming to the ScriptedInterface
& ScriptedPythonInterface facilities by introducing 2
ScriptedThreadPlanInterface & ScriptedThreadPlanPythonInterface classes.

This allows us to get rid of every ScriptedThreadPlan-specific SWIG
method and re-use the same affordances as other scripting offordances,
like Scripted{Process,Thread,Platform} & OperatingSystem.

To do so, this adds new transformer methods for `ThreadPlan`, `Stream` &
`Event`, to allow the bijection between C++ objects and their python
counterparts.

This just re-lands #70392 after fixing test failures.

70f41a8c30 [lldb] Add/change options in statistics dump to control what sections are dumped (#95075)
# Added/changed options

The following options are **added** to the `statistics dump` command:
* `--targets=bool`: Boolean. Dumps the `targets` section.
* `--modules=bool`: Boolean. Dumps the `modules` section.
When both options are given, the field `moduleIdentifiers` will be
dumped for each target in the `targets` section.

The following options are **changed**:
* `--transcript=bool`: Changed to a boolean. Dumps the `transcript`
section.

# Behavior of `statistics dump` with various options

The behavior is **backward compatible**:
- When no options are provided, `statistics dump` dumps all sections.
- When `--summary` is provided, only dumps the summary info.

**New** behavior:
- `--targets=bool`, `--modules=bool`, `--transcript=bool` overrides the
above "default".

For **example**:
- `statistics dump --modules=false` dumps summary + targets +
transcript. No modules.
- `statistics dump --summary --targets=true --transcript=true` dumps
summary + targets (in summary mode) + transcript.


# Added options into public API

In `SBStatisticsOptions`, add:
* `Set/GetIncludeTargets`
* `Set/GetIncludeModules`
* `Set/GetIncludeTranscript`

**Alternative considered**: Thought about adding
`Set/GetIncludeSections(string sections_spec)`, which receives a
comma-separated list of section names to be included ("targets",
"modules", "transcript"). The **benefit** of this approach is that the
API is more future-proof when it comes to possible adding/changing of
section names. **However**, I feel the section names are likely to
remain unchanged for a while - it's not like we plan to make big changes
to the output of `statistics dump` any time soon. The **downsides** of
this approach are: 1\ the readability of the API is worse (requires
reading doc to understand what string can be accepted), 2\ string input
are more prone to human error (e.g. typo "target" instead of expected
"targets").

New test cases have been added to verify:
* Different sections are dumped/not dumped when different
`StatisticsOptions` are given through command line (CLI or
`HandleCommand`; see `test_sections_existence_through_command`) or API
(see `test_sections_existence_through_api`).
* The order in which the options are given in command line does not
matter (see `test_order_of_options_do_not_matter`).

435dd97461 Add AllowRepeats to SBCommandInterpreterRunOptions. (#94786)
This is useful if you have a transcript of a user session and want to
rerun those commands with RunCommandInterpreter. The same functionality
is also useful in testing.

I'm adding it primarily for the second reason. In a subsequent patch,
I'm adding the ability to Python based commands to provide their
"auto-repeat" command. Among other things, that will allow potentially
state destroying user commands to prevent auto-repeat. Testing this with
Shell or pexpect tests is not nearly as accurate or convenient as using
RunCommandInterpreter, but to use that I need to allow auto-repeat.

I think for consistency's sake, having interactive sessions always do
auto-repeats is the right choice, though that's a lightly held
opinion...

# Changes

1. Changes to the structured transcript.
1. Add fields `commandName` and `commandArguments`. They will hold the
name and the arguments string of the expanded/executed command (e.g.
`breakpoint set` and `-f main.cpp -l 4`). This is not to be confused
with the `command` field, which holds the user input (e.g. `br s -f
main.cpp -l 4`).
2. Add field `timestampInEpochSeconds`. It will hold the timestamp when
the command is executed.
3. Rename field `seconds` to `durationInSeconds`, to improve
readability, especially since `timestampInEpochSeconds` is added.
2. When transcript is available and the newly added option
`--transcript` is present, add the transcript to the output of
`statistics dump`, as a JSON array under a new field `transcript`.
3. A few test name and comment changes.

c5e417a812 [lldb] Fix 'session save' command on Windows
1. Use dashes (-) instead of colons (:) as time separator in a session log
file name since Windows doesn't support saving files with names containing
colons.

2. Temporary file creation code is changed in the test:
On Windows, the temporary file should be closed before 'session save'
writes session log to it. NamedTemporaryFile() can preserve the file
after closing it with delete_on_close=False option.
However, this option is only available since Python 3.12. Thus
mkstemp() is used for temporary file creation as the more compatible
option.

incontrovertible error, such a wrapper function creates a significant
readability improvement and lowers the cost of entry to add error
handling in more places.

4cc6d0f4df [lldb] Make use of Scripted{Python,}Interface for ScriptedThreadPlan (Reland #70392) (#93149)
This patch makes ScriptedThreadPlan conforming to the ScriptedInterface
& ScriptedPythonInterface facilities by introducing 2
ScriptedThreadPlanInterface & ScriptedThreadPlanPythonInterface classes.

This allows us to get rid of every ScriptedThreadPlan-specific SWIG
method and re-use the same affordances as other scripting offordances,
like Scripted{Process,Thread,Platform} & OperatingSystem.

To do so, this adds new transformer methods for `ThreadPlan`, `Stream` &
`Event`, to allow the bijection between C++ objects and their python
counterparts.

This just re-lands #70392 after fixing test failures.
